Award Opportunities at Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Conference

This year, we are excited to announce two award opportunities for students presenting their work at the annual Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Conference.

Undergraduate Research Excellence Award

The prestigious Undergraduate Research Excellence Award recognizes students who holistically engage in research and are able to effectively communicate their results to a broad audience. Only three (3) awards will be given!

Eligible students must be graduating seniors who complete all requirements for the Undergraduate Research Excellence program (UREP) requirements by April 1 and present their work at the annual Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship (virtual) Conference on April 30. Finalists will be selected from the UREP participants and, in addition to their recorded conference presentation, may be invited to present as part of a live virtual showcase event leading up to the conference.

Apply to be considered for this award by completing this short form by April 1.

Please direct questions to Keri Swaby (email: kswaby@vt.edu) or Amanda MacDonald (email: abmacdon@vt.edu).

Policy Undergraduate Research Award

The Policy Destination Area (DA) is offering one or more undergraduate research awards for work presented in 2021 at the Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship (virtual) Conference. Awards will be up to $500. Selection criteria will include: 1) Use of systematic data and analyses to address a problem that affects people, society, other living organisms or the environment; 2) research-to-practice translation with possible implications for governmental or nongovernmental action; 3) potential to inform more than one discipline; 4) originality of the research; and 5) accessibility of the presentation to a broad audience.

If you would like to be considered for this prize, please fill out this form. Interested applicants will be sent a link to upload their symposium materials and should be prepared to submit their presentation materials to the +Policy Awards Committee no later than by April 28. Judges will attend your presentation, using materials for review and of course, keeping your materials confidential. We anticipate awards notifications to be made the week following the research symposium.
