2021 DOE Scholars - Internships - Economic Impact and Diversity

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Economic Impact and Diversity (ED) is seeking passionate and policy-driven Scholars to engage in energy justice law and policy research in support of an equitable transition away from fossil fuels. The Scholar will join a team of researchers working on projects related to the advancement of state-level transitions to equitable renewable energy. The Office of Economic Impact and Diversity envisions a transition across all U.S. states and territories to true energy justice—ensuring that energy is accessible, affordable, clean, and democratically managed for all communities, while also remediating past social, economic, and health burdens on those disproportionately harmed by the current energy system.

The Scholar will receive training, mentoring, and additional support to effectively accomplish internship goals.

Scholar will participate in the following activities:

• Development of energy justice research projects

• Publishing research in peer-reviewed journals

• Development of policy briefs

Community Outreach and Engagement:

• Designing training materials for use in community organizations

• Conducting webinars and trainings on toolkits, policy briefs, and other research developed by ED

• Meeting and collaborating with frontline community leaders and policy experts

The DOE Scholars Program provides stipends starting at $600 per week for undergraduate students and $650 per week for graduate students and recent graduates. Travel reimbursement of inbound and outbound costs up to $1,000 for participants who live more than fifty miles, one-way, from the assigned hosting site. Initial appointment will be for 10 weeks with possible extensions.
