Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning: STUDENT FOCUS GROUPS

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is coordinating student focus groups in first year courses in the College of Science. The focus groups will examine pedagogical changes made by the college’s faculty this year. In the past, CETL asked faculty to recommend students with some methods experience to work as focus group facilitators.

Facilitators will engage in a short training, conduct the focus groups simultaneously with other facilitated groups, and be guided through finding common themes. Students will be paid for their time ($10 per hour for about 4-5 hours of work) and receive a letter describing their tasks for inclusion in their resume. There will also be pizza and soft drinks at the focus group event.

To participate students need to be available for one of the training sessions on 11/8 and the focus group date on 11/13.

  • Introduction and Training Session – 11/8 @ 10-11am OR 3-4pm (location TBD)

  • Focus Groups and Debrief – 11/13 6:00-9:00pm (Library Multipurpose Room)

Interested students, or those with questions, can email jharder@vt.edu.
