Boren Language Awards

The Boren Awards for Language, Culture, and Service are accepting applications now until February 8, 2018.

The Boren Scholarship provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests for long term periods of time (ranging from a summer program for STEM students only to 6-12 months for all majors).

Boren Awardees study a wide range of critical languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, and Swahili. Ranging from novice to superior, all Boren Awardees are committed to learning languages and increasing their proficiency. If selected, you will study in world areas underrepresented in study abroad, and graduate with expertise in your chosen fields of study, language, and the cultures of Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

What are Boren alumni up to now?

They are working in international and national security positions throughout the Federal Government, including the Departments of State, Defense, and Homeland Security, and USAID.

Countries include Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.

While abroad, students can conduct research related to national security to support their NSEP Service Requirement.

Interested students can contact the campus representative Ms. Marielle Wijnants.
