Sustainability Undergraduate Research Mini-Grants

Interested in sustainability and the future of our earth? Have a creative, innovative idea for a research project? Self-driven, motivated students who are excited about a more sustainable future - give this mini-grant a try and bring your project to life!

-------------------------------------------------------------

The University Libraries at Virginia Tech invites undergraduate students in all disciplines and academic programs to apply for funding to explore their sustainability research project ideas through a competitive mini-grant program.

The Susan and David Keesee Sustainability Undergraduate Research Mini-Grant Program is designed to help advance research projects on sustainability topics including, but not limited to:

  • Ecological sustainability

  • Environmental sustainability

  • Environmental conservation

  • Policy and sustainability

  • Sustainable agriculture

  • Sustainable building

  • Sustainable communities

  • Sustainable development

  • Sustainable energy

  • Sustainable materials

  • Sustainable transportation

Who should apply?

Any undergraduate student—regardless of major or college of study—with a sustainability research idea he or she would like to explore further. We love interdisciplinary research projects, too, so don’t be afraid to apply if you don’t see your topic in the list above.

How much can I ask for?

Students can request up to $2,000 per project idea. Please include a description of the resource needs for your project in the “project description” section of the application. An example might be a request for funds to cover project-related supplies and travel expenses. Applications will be reviewed and awards given on a rolling basis. Submission of an application does not guarantee an award.

How do I apply?

To submit your idea, go to bit.ly/KeeseeMiniGrantForm.

Applicants will be asked to supply their name, major, email address, a project title, a 250 words or less research project description, and a brief statement about how the University Libraries will support the overall research process.
